Yup, the same WordPress that WordPress.com uses is available for download at http://mu.wordpress.org/download/.
WordPress 2.7 is out! Sooner than I though, I thought it would come out around the end of December. There is a post on the WP Dev Blog, that outlines everything. Thanks WordPress for this awesomeness of a blog publishing tool!
WordPress 2.7 RC2 has been released. Woo!
There comes a time in every WordPress release when it’s ready for the world , to come out of its cocoon and feel the light of the world on its wings for the first time.
It’s not quite that time yet, but we’re as close as we’ve ever been, hence the immediate availability of 2.7 Release Candidate 2, or RC2 for short.
Of course if you were already testing 2.7, you can just use the built-in core updater (Tools > Upgrade) to download and install RC2 for you (and later upgrade you to the final release when it’s available) but if not you can use the download link above.
We feel this release is pretty much exactly what we’re going to ship as 2.7, barring any final bugs or polish tweaks that you report or we find.
WordPress.com just went 2.7, and this is the reason I’m on self-hosted WordPress.
I got 2.7 on the 1st of November, today it’s the 5th of December, so lets see — that’s 30 + 5 hmm.. 35!
35 days after the first beta came out, WP.com users get 2.7. If, if! I was on WP.com, I wouldn’t be able to stand 2.6 after I read how great 2.7 is. I’ve got nothing against WP.com, I’m just saying – I’m grateful that I’m on self-hosted.
No real purpose for this post, just needed to get it out of my system, lol.
I’m not a big fan of the WordPress 2.7 Icons, so I found the plugin Tangofy.
Now what that does is replace the 2.7 icons with icons from Firefox, GNOME and Tango.

The WP Dev Blog has announced that RC1 is public, just updated.
With the release of RC1, we’re in the final leg of development before the release of 2.7. 280 commits since beta 3 have polished the new admin UI (including new menu icons created by the winners of our icon design contest) and fixed all known blocker bugs.
We think RC1 is ready for everyone to try out. Please download RC1 and help us make the final release the best it can be. As always, back up your blog before upgrading.

WordPress 2.7, WordPress, 2.7, WordPress 2.7, awesomeness. Now that I’m done jumping up and down I can actually sit down and write about what makes it so awesome!
1. New Look!
How awesome? A new look, to be honest, you’ve got to miss the old look just a little bit, but this.. this is big! It went from this..

The Old WordPress Admin Layout
to this…

The new 2.7 WordPress layout.
The thing I find most satisfying about the new look is the navigation, drop-down for the win! Also, another thing I like is the new dashboard, this is how it’s meant to look like! With real time information, more options, ability to add stuff to it and move them around. Simply, revolutionary.
2. Auto-WordPress Update

Risk-free as well, I hear. It works just like the plugin update on WordPress 2.6, pretty awesome to be honest. One has to wonder what will become of the WordPress Automatic Upgrade once the stable version of 2.7 is out.

3. Plugin Browser
I once said in a previous post that I never thought this feature would ever be built into WordPress, and I was wrong. How could I have been so blind? Here it is in WordPress 2.7! You just search the plugin and click on install, and it’s installed. Future of Plugin Manager? Questionable? Indeed.. It doesn’t work for many people I know!

4. Quick Edit
It’s annoying when you want to edit a tag, or change the category of a post and you have to wait for the whole page to load! Complain and whine no longer, WordPress 2.7′s new “Quick Edit” feature, does exactly what Manage-able plugin does, speaking of it, the plugin might go outta business!

The Quick Editor
5. Stickies!
Want your post to stay on top for the rest of the day? Simple, WordPress 2.7′s new sticky feature helps!
There is a plugin that does this, but I don’t think this plugin — WP-Sticky, will be gone anytime soon; unless an announcement feature is built into WordPress.
6. It’s Still WordPress!
While multiple new features are added, the great thing is, it’s still WordPress, it still the same but better!
Well that’s enough for now, there are more features, but these are to be honest, the most exciting ones. Now if you don’t mind, I’ve got to get something outta my system!
