When I help people with their sites, they ask me will you need cPanel access, I say no — just your password. They say Why? I say because I use FTP, they ask whats FTP? I say never mind, because not only do I suck at explaining, and it needs screenshots! :-P (To avoid more questions)

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a fast way to transfer files between a site or server without having to access a browser-based uploader. It can be very useful if you’re uploading a script (WordPress, Cutenews etc.).

Here we gooooo….

1. Get your FTP information from your 110MB Panel if you’re on 110MB or from you cPanel > FTP Manager, if you’re on cPanel

2. Open up your FTP program, I recommend FileZilla for Windows and gFTP for Linux, and CyberDuck for Mac OS X. I’m on Windows, so I have FileZilla — the old one :-|

3. As you can see, it’s open, now you connect by entering the FTP information you got on step 1.

4. Enter your FTP information, and click on quick connect, the port will get filled out on its own. Don’t worry. :-)

5. Connected, now to upload some random file. :-D

6. I’m uploading the same index.php file, so all I do is double click, and then the overwrite warning comes up, I click “OK”. To avoid having the warning coming up again and again, tick “Always use this action when a file already exists”.

That’s it, basic FTPing! Hope you enjoyed and learned from this tutorial :-)
